The fully-plugged band included Phil Spalding on bass, and their angular, dynamic material was complemented by an acoustic segment featuring some deft mandolin. But most impressive was Simon’s rich, emotive voice. Once warmed up, he delivered with heartfelt power and range, more Roger than Pete.
With the exception of I Am The Answer, from his mid-80s debut, the set-list was a well-balanced mix of the reissues, the title tracks standing out. Though weighty, the responsibility of the family name continues to be proudly borne by a far from unsung talent.
