The Standard Lamps are a three-piece band from the South, playing feel-good music with a blues edge.
Following a gig in January 2014 at The Forum in Tunbridge Wells, where they supported the Wilko Johnson Band, Wilko's manager Lisa Climie approached them to support Wilko and Roger Daltrey at a one-off gig at the Shepherd's Bush Empire the following month. Wilko and Roger were playing there to promote their upcoming joint album Going Back Home.
The Lamps were more than happy to say yes, as Mike Wilton, lead singer and guitarist, relates:
"It was a great honour to be asked, as Wilko is a massive influence in terms of his unique guitar style and stage presence."
Of The Standard Lamps, comprising singer and guitarist Mike Wilton, bassist James Livett and drummer Matt Bennie, Lisa says:
"I was so impressed with them when they supported Wilko at the Forum. They are a modern incarnation of the three-piece, powerhouse, stripped back rock bands such Dr Feelgood and The Who, that the British uniquely produce."
Playing countless gigs in the South East, The Standard Lamps have been pleasing audiences since early 2010. With their first EP ‘Portland’ (2010), debut album ‘Sell Everything You Own’.
Formed in late 2009 by Mike Wilton, The Standard Lamps believe that it's about time that we took things back to basics. During the last two years, Mike has been experimenting with various musicians to produce 'The Standard Lamps' which consists of James Livett on bass and Matt Bennie on drums.
The Standard Lamps believe in sounding where you come from. The Standard Lamps believe in variety. The Standard Lamps believe in having fun with what you're doing. The Standard Lamps believe in giving you a good time. Their music can best be described as a mixture of melodic tunes with a raw blues edge.
"The Lamps' crunching power-rock digressions are a thing to treasure" MOJO
"A sound ready made for small Blues clubs or large festival arenas" FIREWORKS
"You can see why Townsend and Daltrey are fans, but the more interesting corners reflect the new-wave urban spike-pop of Squeeze and Elvis Costello" CLASSIC ROCK
"Real good, honest songwriting from the heart." UBERROCK
